Food safety tips for sharing food

Sharing food is a kindness, and sharing it safely keeps it that way. These simple guidelines apply whether you are sharing a plate or picking one up.

Good food to share

  • Meals cooked the same day and kept covered.
  • Extra rice, curry, daal, pasta or soup from a pot nobody has eaten from.
  • Bread, roti and baked goods.
  • Whole fruit and vegetables.
  • Sealed packaged food before its use-by date.

Please do not share

  • Cooked food left at room temperature for more than 2 hours (1 hour in hot weather above 32°C / 90°F).
  • Food from a plate someone has already eaten from.
  • Anything that smells, looks or tastes off.
  • Packaged food past its use-by date.

Packing and labelling

  • Use a clean container with a lid, or wrap the food well.
  • Write the name of the dish and when it was cooked.
  • Mention common allergens such as nuts, dairy, eggs, gluten or seafood in your post.
  • Keep hot food hot, or cool it quickly and keep it in the fridge until pickup.

After you pick up

  • Check that the food looks and smells right. If in doubt, leave it out.
  • Eat it soon, or refrigerate it within 2 hours.
  • Reheat cooked food until it is steaming hot all the way through (75°C / 165°F).
  • Eat shared cooked food within 24 hours.

Safe pickups

  • Choose a pickup spot you are comfortable with, such as your door or a building entrance.
  • Always confirm the 6-digit pickup code in the app.
  • Report anything that does not feel right — our team reviews every report.
