Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about sharing and picking up free food on Itaam.

Is Itaam free?

Yes. Itaam is free to use, and food shared on Itaam is always given away for free. There are no fees for sharing or picking up.

Who can share food?

Anyone with good food to spare — home cooks, families, students, or a café or caterer with extra portions at the end of the day.

Who can pick up food?

Anyone nearby who would like it. You never have to explain why you are requesting food.

What kind of food can I share?

Freshly cooked meals, extra rice, curry or pasta, bread, fruit and sealed packaged food. Do not share food that has been left out for hours, has been eaten from, or that you would not eat yourself. See our food safety tips for details.

How do I find free food near me?

Create a free account, choose to find food and allow location access. The map shows food being shared around you, with how many servings are left.

How does the pickup code work?

When the person sharing accepts your request, you receive a unique 6-digit code. Show it at pickup and they confirm it in the app, so the food always goes to the person who requested it.

How long do I have to collect food?

One hour after your request is accepted. If you cannot make it, cancel the request so someone else can have the food.

Do I have to share my home address?

No. You choose the pickup spot you pin on the map. It can be your door, your building entrance or a nearby landmark.

Is Itaam safe?

Every pickup is confirmed with a unique code, pickups can be rated, and anyone can be reported or blocked. Reports are reviewed by our team. Follow our food safety tips and choose a pickup spot you are comfortable with.
